Our Early Childhood Literacy Program is off to a great start this fall. This program encourages preschool and early elementary age children to read. Each week volunteers read stories to the children and help them select a book to borrow for a week. The young students love listening to the stories and our volunteers love giving back to our community in this meaningful way.

Because the participating school does not have a library, children are also taught about library principles by borrowing books and returning them on time. This year the book bags we provided for carrying home the books were decorated by a senior citizens group. The children take good care of the books and are proud to have this responsibility. There are always plenty of smiles on the children’s and the volunteers’ faces during this special story time at school.
