Kids who come to school with empty stomachs do not perform well academically, and being hungry can also hinder their behavior in the classroom.  For that reason, Assistance League began our Food for Kids program in 2012.  In the past 6 years, FFK delivered over 134,000 pounds of food to hungry kids.

Food for Kids provides week-end food packs for 180 students during the school year.  Each 5 1/2 pound pack includes 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners and nutritious snacks. Our partner schools, Jenny Lind Elementary, River Bend Education Center and Harrison Education Center distribute the food packs to the students.

Eight Assistance League volunteers gather for 90 minutes every Thursday morning to assemble the weekend food packs.  Students arrive at school on Monday morning- well fed and ready to learn.
