The mission of OSR is to encourage literacy through reading one book by all students and staff in selected schools. This fall, three different schools: Richfield Middle School, Maxfield Elementary and Riverview Elementary, collectively, received 1,156 books!
Maxfield Elementary chose Those Shoes. The book will be the weekly theme and discussed during a school wide morning meeting. They will be handed out before Winter Break.
Last Stop on Market Street (both English & Spanish), is Riverview Elementary’s chosen book. The books will be used in a school wide book club event starting in January. There will be a big reveal of the title at that time which will include acknowledgement of our donation.
Richfield Middle School chose A Monster Calls, which was given to all 6th graders at an assembly on September 28th to kick off their involvement in the “Global Read Along Program” (a worldwide book group project) and to acknowledge ALMSP’s book donation.
It was an informative and inspirational event. As I was helping to hand out books after the assembly, Betty overheard one student say, “I feel like I’m really appreciated.”
