Students Get New School UniformsFall is always a busy but invigorating season for Assistance League volunteers. It’s our annual Clothes for Kids time –we provide new uniforms to economically disadvantaged school children in 7 schools in Minneapolis/St. Paul. We love this one-on-one time to spend with the students as we help them get the perfect size of shirts and pants for the school year. Although we have just a few minutes with each child, day-brightening conversations happen constantly. Sometimes we hear our khaki-colored pants being called “tacky-colored” pants. One tall student shopper prefers only tall Assistance League volunteers for her shopping experience. A few children, who feel shopping for clothes is the least favorite of activities, always leave happy—the five minutes it takes to get their uniforms doesn’t interfere with other fun activities at school.

We get to see many smiles and happy faces during our Clothes for Kids weeks. Knowing that these children and their parents have one less thing to worry about is one of the reasons we volunteer to help with Clothes for Kids.
